Madhavan goes dark in Amazon Prime Original Breathe

Girls remember R Madhavan for Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mai, Boys remember him for Three Idiots, Legends remember him for 13B, the horror film that was a sleeper hit in 2009. Madhavan sunk his pearlies into that role and now, the guy is going legit grey with the Amazon Prime original Breathe, where he’s Danny Mascarenhas, a soccer coach and a single parent, whose son Josh (Atharva Vishwakarma) is suffering from a life-threatening disease. Only, Danny takes the law in his hands to ensure that his son survives.

And pitted against him is Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh) a senior police officer of the Crime Branch is just waiting to nail him. Kabir has some skeletons of his own in the closet. Torn between them are Juliet Mascarenhas (Neelam Kulkarni) and Ria Ganguly (Sapna Pabbi) Kabir’s wife, who is desperately trying to rebuild her life after her second marriage.

The trailer for the second Indian Amazon Original Prime debuted on YouTube at 1 PM today and instantly caught our attention. This is one of the first times that Madhavan is playing a grey character. He, of course, capture the screen every time he faces it and Amit Sadh is a perfect foil for him. Atharva Vishwakarma, who plays the young son, does show potential and I look forward to seeing him not just in this series but further down the road too.

Speaking about his character, Madhavan said, ” It is not just me; all fathers who watch the show will definitely relate to Danny Mascarenhas. In Breathe, with Danny’s character, we take a closer look at the lengths a father can go to, to save his child. It has been one of the most challenging roles I have played in my career.”

Breathe streams on Amazon Prime on January 26. It is also the first trilingual Indian web series.
